Removing pipe from image

Sometimes photos present odd problems. Some element in the photo does not go well with the rest of the image. How do we remove such portions. Of course these problems are unique. Each one requires a different technique.
This is one such photo. It belongs to Flickr member Patriot 1958
He would like the pipe at the left removed.
Step 1 : The first thing to do is to zoom into the image.
Step 2 : Click the Rectangular Marquee Tool.
Step 3 : Draw a selection with the Rectangular Marquee alongside the entire length of the pipe.
Step 4 : Press CTRL+J. The selection is copied and pasted onto a new Layer 1.
Step 5 : Press CTRL+T. A selection forms.
Step 6 : Press the Left Arrow Key on the keyboard to move the selection over the pipe.
Step 7 : The pipe has been covered.
Step 8 : Press ENTER. The pipe has been covered, but a thin line remains.
Step 9 : Press CTRL+T again. A selection forms again.
Step 10 : Drag the middle right handle to right.  Move the left handle to the left. Press Enter.
Step 11 : The image looks like this. A thin line remains on both sides.
Step 12 : Click the Clone Stamp Tool.
Step 13 : At the top change the Current Layer to Current & Below.
