Selecting Skin - Vibrance in CS4 CS5

I had selected an earlier tutorial on selecting skin without affecting the rest of the image to show tones can be changed. The tutorial is here
I had used the Hue/Saturation filter in the image. This is the same tutorial, but it can only be done in Photoshop CS4 or CS5. Vibrance is not available in versions earlier to CS4. Here I will use Vibrance. The rest of the tutorial is the same.
Step 1 I will be using this free stock image. You can download it here
It belongs to ~LongStock
Step 2 : Press CTRL+J to duplicate the Background layer. A new layer -- Layer1 forms on top of the Background layer.
Step 3 : Click where the red arrow points to reveal the Blending Modes. Click on Overlay.
Step 4 : As soon as you change the Blend Mode to Overlay. The photo looks like this. Not exactly what you are looking for.
Step 5 : Click the Lasso Tool and click on the Magnetic Lasso.
Step 6 : Click a point then keep clicking and dragging. If you place a point wrong. It will remove the last point. If you get it very badly wrong, press ESC and begin afresh.
Step 7 : As soon as you come back to the first point, the selection turns into marching ants.
Step 8 : Click the Quick Mask button.
Step 9 : As soon as you click the Quick Mask button.
The Foreground should be set to Black and the Foreground to White, which is the default setting. If it is not, press X and then D on your keyboard.
Step 10 : Click the Zoom Tool to zoom into the image.
Step 11 : I have zoomed into the image.
Step 12 : Click on the Brush Tool.
Step 13 : Click on a Hard Brush.
Step 14 Paint over the eyes and eyebrow. Note the Foreground Color is set to Black.
Step 15 : Click X on the keyboard. The Foreground Color will turn to White. White reveals and Black hides. With the Foreground set to White I have painted over the eyebrow which had been covered by the Quick Mask.
Step 16 : I have painted over the lips and nostrils with the Foreground set to Black.
Step 17 : I have brushed away a portion of the Mask on the arm white Foreground Color set to White. Remember White reveals. You have to go over the image minutely to discover where the Quick Mask has been properly applied and where it has not been.
Step 18 : Painting with the Foreground as White, I have painted away the Quick Mask from the fingers.
Step 19 : The Quick Mask has been completed. The painstaking work is over.
Step 20 : Click the Quick Mask button again
Step 21 : As soon as you click the Quick Mask button, a selection of marching ants become visible.
Step 22 : Click the Add Layer Mask button at the bottom of the Layers palette. A Layer Mask forms next to the layer thumbnail on Layer 1. The marching ants disappear from the image.
Step 23 : CTRL+Click the Layer Mask.
Step 24 : The marching ants reappear.
Step 25 : Click the Fill or Layer Adjustment button. From the pop up click on Vibrance.
Step 26 : The Vibrance dialogue box opens.

Step 27 : Drag the Vibrance to the left. And, see the effect.

Step 28 : This is how the skin looks after applying the Vibrance. Here I have dragged the slider to left. In some images, it might have to be the right to increase the Vibrance. It will depend on your image.
Step 29 : I have now dragged the Saturation slider to the left. How much you drag will depend on the effect you want. In some cases you have to drag the slider to right. It will depend on your image.

Step 30 : This is how the image looks after dragging the Saturation slider. Look at the background of the image. None of it has been affected. Only the skin tone has changed.
That is all. Other photoshop tutorials are here
